Way too low, especially if you are trying to lose weight you need to be working out and your body needs way more calories than that to get through the day. A good average calorie intake would be between 1500-2000 (give or take depending on how much physical activity you do through out the day.)

Depends on your age, gender, and level of activity. Overall recommendation is that men need 2500 cals and women need 2000 cals daily. A fairly common weight loss level is 1500 cals. which is quite doable on a fairly normal-looking diet. Cutting back to 1200 cals is tricky. It needs a carefully planned diet to give you all the required nutrients. And your serving sizes will be seriously small. You're looking at a considerable effort to get it right and to stay with it. 1500 can lose you 1lbs weekly, on normal-looking food, with no risk of losing out on essential nutrients. Add some exercise to lose more.
