AnswerThere is currently a lot of exciting research being done regarding Alzheimer's disease. However, it is still considered a fatal diagnosis at the present time. There are some medications/treatments/diets out that claim to slow down the disease's progress. Use your internet search engine to get onto some of the health websites to research what options are available.

Yes, I think so.

But I don't think it's "directly" from the disease, seeing it how Alzheimer's is a serious condition of memory loss.

I've heard of people committing suicide, some falling down stairs, some forgetting how to consume food and so on.

So, yes, by forgetting to do important things (for example walk), you can die, but you can't die from just being diagnosed with it. In other words, it's not a virus or a bacteria.

Yes.

But people can live long lives with it, and they have some treatments that helps their movements to slow down :)

But since there is no cure for it yet, people who as it will eventually wear down and die.

While Alzheimer's Disease does not "cause" actual, physical death, it progresses from stage to stage and the complications from the disease can be linked to the ultimate death of a person who has Alzheimer's.

There are several stages to Alzheimer's Disease, and everyone who might have this disease goes through them differently and at different rates.

There is no "rate" of decline from the beginning of the disease, which can start and continue for years without anyone knowing. This has been discovered by new imaging techniques, identifying "amyloid beta" deposits in the brain that will begin to appear long before any signs or symptoms of Alzheimer's appear.

The death of a person who is suspected of having Alzheimer's (there is, to date, no absolutely definitive way to "diagnose" Alzheimer's disease until the person has died and an autopsy is performed to confirm a suspected diagnosis) comes from complications of this disease.

Yes. In Alzheimer's disease there is general atrophy of the cerebral cortex. There is degeneration of neurons and deposits of a substance called amyloid (a protein) in the neurons.

Extremely. It kills you, but first it destroys your brain so you can't remember who you are or anything else.

Is Alzheimers a disease that one can die from by itself or is it a disease that contributes to death without actually causing it?

one does die of alzheimers disease, if they are taken good care of, they wont die of anything else memory related. once alzheimers disease progresses to the autonomic nervous system(involuntary)the one that controls breathing, heartrate, vasoconstriction and dialation, it kills you. it does directly kill you eventually, it will stop your heart or lungs. most people arent taken care of enough to let them get to that stage. and they do die of a self inflicted injury(falls, hyperglycemia, pneumonia etc.)
