It is still remembered by the people that are now grand parents. In the military, by very senior officers and NCO's. As time goes on, the younger generation is receiving more and more deluted memories/information from the Vietnam experience, thus allowing the danger of it repeating itself. Operation Desert Storm was the perfect example on how to avoid "Vietnams" and do the job right. Memories seemed to have dimmed, and history can repeat itself for those who do not learn from the past.
Vietnam is referred to as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Vietnam is still considered a Socialist country, but since the war, they've adopted many Capitalistic practices.
