If you are looking at the MacBook Air, you need to ask yourself what you will be doing on the computer.

The big setback to the MacBook Air is that is does not have a CD\DVD drive. The computer is very barebones when it comes to interfacing. All programs you would like to install will need to be on a USB flash drive or from the internet.

It is possible to buy an external DVD drive that connects via USB, it is just another peripheral to lug around.

If you want to watch movies on your laptop, a MacBook might be a better option. It is a little bit cheaper as well.

No. it used to be because it had the best and most education software on it, but now the PC has quite a bit. The best computer for a student is one that is fairly modern (made within past 2 years) and the teacher knows very well.

Yes if you can afford a MacBook Pro, It is a very good computer. If you are not doing anything too strenuous (running a application like Final Cut Pro) though you could choose a MacBook because it is cheaper (but it isn't as good looking), or a MacBook Air for portability.
