Gautama is a family name. Siddhartha Gautama through meditation and wisdom became The Buddha. Ashoka's family name is Maurya and was a king a few hundred years after The Buddha died. He became a Buddhist after he waged a terrible war against a neighboring kingdom. So they are unrelated.
