There was more than one volcano there, active between 42 and 17 million years ago. They are all now extinct and part of the geologic sequence.
There are about 5 volcanoes in Texas 1. Pilot Knob (Austin Texas) 2. the Paisano Volcano (Fort Davis) 3. Burro Mesa (Big Bend national park) 4. Sierra Quemada (Big Bend national park) 5. Buckhorn Caldera (Fort Davis) The Paisano volcano is actually in between Marfa and Alpine, Texas. Fort Davis is in that area, but off in another direction (more North). I used to live in Marfa and would pass the inactive volcano on the way into Alpine. Both are extremely small cities.

The Grand Canyon of the Colorado River is an adequate feature particulary when viewed from the top of the north rim the south rim and the canyon bottom. To have seen the canyon without those perspectives means that you have not seen the canyon. A relatively new excurtion is via helicopter which while relatively expensive provides an explosive visual panorama. A ride through the rapids isn't cheap but remains an essential part of the ex[erience. Less popular but still memorable is the joruney down via burro which may be an essential part of the Grand Canyon experience
