Best Answer

It can be. When the liquid petroleum gas (LPG) is incompletely oxidized due to a reduced oxygen level, CO (carbon monoxide) as well as CO2 (carbon dioxide) is produced. LPG gas is mostly propane and/or butane.

For propane, the comparative reactions are:

(excess O2)

C3H8 + 5 O2 → 3 CO2 + 4 H2O + heat

(insufficient O2)

C3H8 + 4.5 O2 → 2 CO2 + CO + 4 H2O + heat
