maybe,i dont know The California Labor School was founded in 1942 as a worker's school to support education for workers in San Francisco. Funded by labor unions and later, community members, it served to improve the lives of adults who worked throughout the Bay Area. Classes were inexpensive and available to all community members including racial minorities, a radical idea during the era of segregation. It offered classes in union organizing, language skills, history, as well as art and theatre classes.
During its heyday, the School purchased a building in San Francisco and had satellite campuses in Oakland and Los Angeles. When the first meeting of the United Nations was held in San Francisco in 1945, the interests of labor were represented by member of the California Labor School because of their international perspective and the involvement of the faculty in radical causes.
Despite its success, in 1948 it lost its State accreditation because many of the founding members were involved in union activities deemed communist, very common during the Popular Front era of the 1930s and 1940s.
Although Dr. Holland Roberts fought to keep the school open, it continued to lose its influence, and ultimately closed for good in 1957 when its tax-exempt status was reversed and the tax bill was impossible to pay back.
