It is not known for being a major player as a proselytizing religion. Several protestant denominations are very strong in that area.

AnswerCatholic missionaries have travelled the world looking for converts, sometimes even at the point of the sword. Even today, there are Catholic missionaries in Africal, Asia and elsewhere, proselytising their faith.

Catholic AnswerCatholicism was the major proselytizing religion for the past twenty centuries. It started out in Jerusalem, Sts. Peter and Paul founded it in Rome, and then it spread throughout the empire, St. Paul preaching as far as Spain. St. James was thought to have gone to India, St. Mark to Egypt. All of northern Africa was a Catholic stronghold until the Muslim invasions. Just this past week (Summer 2012) we had a missionary priest from Africa speak at all of our Masses.

Catholics are charged with spreading the gospel, and the church actively seeks out converts, so yes Catholics proselytize. However, the Catholic church is much more reserved and low key about spreading the gospel than other branches of the Christian faiths.
