It is difficult to generalize, since Chile is one of the longest countries in South America (more than 4300 kms long) with all kinds of regions and climates.

The average temperatures in Chile descend from North to South across the coast line, but a lower rate of descent is seen in the hemispheric average due to a smaller influence of the Pacific Ocean, which holds a current of cold waters moving North (Humboldt Current). The difference between average temperatures between North and South is about 12°C. Besides, the diminution of temperatures due to altitude in higher place should be considered also.

For example: in Iquique, a northern city, average max. temperatures are around 24°C. In Concepción, located in the central part of Chile, average max. temperatures are 17°C. While in Aysén, a southern city, the max. temperature is around 12°C.
