Less developed. More correctly put, China is still considered a developing country with an emerging economy.

Less developed: The simplification of the Traditional characters introduced by Mao is already a downgrade of people's attitudes toward learning. Confucius never wrote in Simplified Chinese or any variants. Less developed also due to Mao's introduction of Communism, which the government takes control of everything. Also less developed due to the Beijing & vicinity areas where people speak though their noses via their throats which doesn't produce clarity of pronunciation as to what the characters should be pronounced via Mandarin. In Taiwan, due to a democratic system and where government helped in teaching people how to enunciate the characters correctly via the learning of Zhuyin Fuhao which is the frontrunner of Hanyu Pinyin which is a copied form written via Roman letters, and sometimes very incorrectly. No such thing as c, q, z or x sounds. These are foreign objects and should be rid of. It should be "ts, chi, tz or hs" sounds, which is correct via Wade-Giles romanization through Zhuyin Fuhao via Taiwan's Mandarin AKA 國語, guóyǔ instead of China's Mandarin, AKA 普通话, pǔtōnghuà.
