He was responsible for several murders and many other less-than-saintly activities. He knew that all his sins would be washed away at baptism so waited to be baptized until he was on his death bed - just in case he needed to carry out some other nefarious act while he was still living. That is definitely not the sort of life that was taught by Christ.
