in Costa Rica they don't have class periods they have times well horas or hours first they go to school at 9:00 and then they get out at 11:00 and then go home to eat Costa Rica is a poor country so they don't have cafeteria and stuff so they go home and eat then they return home at 12:00 and get out of school at 2:00.
If you are poor, the system is poor. If you have money you can pay for a good school. One thing that I noticed is that you can find 16 year olds in the 9th grade, they don't just pass you to move you on.

There isn't much rail in Costa Rica. However you can find a road that will take you just about anywhere. But it should be noted that outside of the bigger cities/towns many of the roads are in poor shape. There are also many bridges most of which are in desperate need of repairs or upgrades. Crossing some of the ones I have was an exercise in faith.
