According to Greek law, 9 years of schooling are obligatory for all. That includes 6 years of primary school and 3 years of "middle school", better know in greek as gymnasium. Of course there are cases in which this law is disregarded unfortunately, as many other laws in Greece too, causing some kids to drop off early from school due to various reasons. Not having the gymnasium certificate makes it hard to find jobs or continue education in some other way.
