The GRE, or Graduate Record Examination, is a general test that is used to measure a number of reasoning areas in a manner that helps predict the test taker's relative ability to succeed in a graduate program.
The GMAT, or Graduate Management Admissions Test, is a somewhat more specific test that is used by business schools to gauge the qualifications of applicants, providing some insight into a test taker's raw intellectual ability to succeed in a graduate business program.
Neither test is "tough," however, it is recommended that one takes a practice test to determine what reasoning areas are weak in order to focus learnings there. In addition, for many that have not recently been test-taking (e.g, out of school for a few years, focused on the job), the practice test can serve as an indicator of the amount of preparation will be necessary to get a solid score.
GMAT is tougher than GRE for indian student. BUt then again, the toughness of the examination depends on your preparation.
