God is by definition good and perfect in all His ways. Only people have distorted the truth of His innate goodness.

A: 2

The idea of God suggests that he/she is good/bad, illumination/darkness, fire/ice, etc the ultimate Yin/Yang that pervades all matter and energy. There are however imaginary gods created by men with human attributes and perversions. These manmade gods promote acts of hate and bigotry based on differentiation of gender, ethnicity, belief, rank, age, appearance and intelligence. The gods created by men for their selfish aggrandizement are bad or evil.

A: 3

The Christian (and many members of other religions recognising God) recognises God as infinite goodness and love. This might be confusing to those who do not have a good grounding of scripture because of the perception by some that God can show negative traits as well as positive. The Old Testament Jews, for example, wrote about a vengeful God , as some of the psalms attest, or a God that would 'strike down their enemies'. However, in the books of the prophets in The Bible, the real interpreters of God's word through the Holy Spirit, the description of God is very different, and they show the ancient Jews just how wrong they were. God's response can be read, for example, in Isaiah Chapter 1 where he regards the Jewish attitude as wrong and where he calls for them to love him as much as he loves them. In Isaiah 40 onwards the messages continues to be that God loves his people with an unfailing and unconditional love.
God's goodness is often diluted with what some perceive as evil in the world that is somehow blamed on God. However, evil in this world is invariably created by humanity through its desire to wage war on others in humanity, through anger, through lust, through greed causing the poor of the world to suffer, through pride, arrogance, revenge and so on. Some might even taunt God and ask why he could not make the world 'do as it's told'. But, just as a father (or mother) loves his/her child, so God loves humanity. You cannot make someone love you, for love comes from free will giving of that love from the one from whom the love is desired. For if God made us love him, that would not be true love at all. In his goodness, God has given us the freewill to love him or to reject him, just as a good parent would do a child.
This does not mean that a good God cannot punish. As a father myself, when my children were small I would punish them, in love, if they did wrong. If I did not, then they would have grown up not knowing right from wrong, as spoilt brats. But because I loved them and still do, from time to time I felt that punishment was necessary to manifest that love. In the same way God manifests his unconditional love by trying to ensure that those who accept him stay on the straight and narrow, and live worthwhile and joyful lives.
Such is the goodness of God.

He is very good
Most religions believe that God is in all things, good and bad. We are just thought to be not wise enough to understand why bad things are allowed to happen, and we are asked to have faith that God knows and will take care of us.
