If by transferable you mean infectious then yes it is.

There are two types of herpes simplex virus (HSV), HSV1 and HSV2. HSV1 is traditionally associated with the mouth and HSV2 with the genitals, although either can infect either area.

It is only possible for transmission to occur when one the infected person has an active sore. Once you are infected with herpes you will continue to get sores from time to time, perhaps when you are run down or stressed, and these will occur in the same place as where the infection entered the body.
