Actually, Ibuprofen and Tylenol are 2 very different chemicals.

ASA stands for Acetylsalicylic Acid, or what is more commonly known as Aspirin. While the short answer to the question is 'No', it's not as simple as that. Anyone who has an allergy to ASA or to Ibuprofen needs to consult a doctor before taking either. They function in a similar manner.

Both do the following:

Inhibit the body's production of prostaglandins, hormone-like substances that are produced by the body in small quantities and are involved in the regulation of processes like pain, fever and inflammation

Ibuprofen is iso-butyl-propanoic-phenolic acid.

Tylenol is a compound called Acetaminophen or Paracetamol.
