Indonesia has a Presidential Cabinet system similar to the US. Therefore the head of government is president. Indonesia does not have a prime minister. The current president of Indonesia is Mr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
Indonesia was a staunch US ally in the 1950's until the US betrayed Indonesia by labeling the country as communist. In 1965 the US supported a military coup d'etat to take over the country. In the next 33 year Indonesia was ruled by a military strongman Suharto which brought Indonesia to become a closed ally of the US again. In 1998 Suharto was toppled by 5 million students who marched into the capital Jakarta and demanded Suharto to step down. Since then the relationship between the US and Indonesia have experienced low and high points.
The distance between Jakarta, Indonesia and Maryland, USA is 9,942 miles.
