Jalisco is a state the size of Nebraska. Some cities are safer than others. For example, Puerto Vallarta or Chapala are quite safe, with many American and Canadian expats living there. On the other hand, a large city such as Guadalajara (pop: 4.4 million) can be much less safer due to its large size and all problems associated with such large metropolises.
