I happened to see the commercial that I think you are referring to. Shot mostly in black and while - with three or four different actors talking about taking Advair. Is that the one?
I know Joel very well, and you are right that the first actor in the commercial looks a lot like him - the same "type" and he has remarkably similar expressions, smile, etc. But I am sure it's not Joel. Joel hasn't made a commercial or been in a play for a couple years (and I have asked him to be in a show or two!) - but he was concentrating on his regular job to have a steadier income.
Don't know the name of the actor who's in the commercial, though.
Also I can't help but wonder who knows Joel well enough to post this question here... Do you feel comfortable identifying yourself? - Can't help but wonder if I know you.
