Were the following spies in the revolutionary war on the british or American side of the war- rachelpaul revere Benjamin thomas William howe john burgoyne Henry Clinton john Andre Joseph stansbury?

Paul Revere was not a spy. He was an American patriot and a noted silversmith and artist, most famed today as one of those who spread the alarm that the British army was on the move to attack Lexington and Concord, in Massachusetts. William Howe, John Burgoyne and Sir Henry Clinton were not spies either. They were British generals. John Andre was a British major who entered into a conspiracy with American General Benedict Arnold by which Arnold would turn traitor and surrender the forts at West Point to the British, which would deal a crushing blow to the American cause. However, Andre was caught out of uniform, behind American lines, the plot was exposed. Arnold fled to the British, and Andre was hanged as a spy. Joseph Stansbury was an American loyalist, taking the British crown's side in the war, and who possibly aided Arnold in initial contacts with Andre, but this may or may not fit the defintion of a spy.
