No, definitely not. King John was a son of King Henry II who took the second name Plantagenet, so in theory John's surname was Plantagenet; but this was never used. Instead he simple used the name John without any surname (as his brother Richard had also done) and the nickname "Lackland" was applied to him when he stupidly lost all his father's territories on the continent of Europe.

At this time hereditary surnames were only just starting to be used, mainly among the nobility, but many people still continued to use the old system of, for example, William fitz Geoffrey - the fitz simply meaning "son of"; so his son might be Godfrey fitz William and his son Alan fitz Godfrey. Nicknames and other forms were also common.
