It was a higly cultured economic powehouse in the Middle East to the point that it was often called the Paris of the area. Today it is a war torn rubble and a battle field between Syria and Israel. It is no longer the Lebanon of the 1950's and early 1960's. Late Prime Minister Harriri was trying to bring up the country to its status of the 50s and 60s, lots of political and regional issues prevented that especially after his assassination.
