I have the same game, and no the game is not multi-player.
I beat the whole game 96 times over and over, but no multi-player.
The game features a solo story mode with Mario or Luigi, a two-player wireless game Mario vs. Luigi, as well as a minigame mode for up to four players. The multiplayer games support both single-card and multi-card play. Most of the minigames are the same as those featured in Super Mario 64 DS, which are no longer required to be unlocked. If Mario does not exist in the game, then the game will not proceed.
Yes it is, but not on WiFi.
look around, if you see any spots where there is a circle of flowers(blue or multi-colored) then dig there.
Not that I have heard of. Sorry.

Just connect a second Wii Remote. A Luma (a star-shaped creature) should appear by Mario's side.
On the Wii? Go to exhibition mode and pick a field. To have player two play, press A and he/she can play on player one's team or on a different team. Have fun playing!
Two. To have another player join, just have someone else grab another wii remote and become an orange Luma. The second player can point the wii remote and collect star bits. Also, the Luma that second player controls can press (A) on most enemies to stop them in their tracks, press (A) on gold coins to have the Luma grabs one at a time and toss it to Mario. Unlike the first Super Mario Galaxy, the second player can attack most enemies. Just have the Luma freeze an enemy and shake the wii remote to make the Luma spin and knock the enemy it freezed.
