Mark Morris High School is not named after the famous dancer, Mark Morris. S. M. 'Mark' Morris was a Vice President of a Long-Bell lumber Co. located in Longview, Washington. He (Morris) was with Robert Long when the decision was made to build a planned city on the Columbia River in Cowlitz County. The two, along with several others, made the resolution at a meeting in Kansas City Missouri. Morris was also an editor of The Longview Daily News during the early days of of the newspaper. This all occurred during 1919 and the early '20's.
