Well, that really depends on opinion. For example though, in DTM races in the 1990s, Mercedes turned the 190e entry level luxury car into a high performance touring car to compete against the BMW M3. The BMW proved to be the worthier of the two. But the BMW M3 road car wasn't nearly as reliable as the rugged 190e. Some cars from BMW outperformed certain one's from Mercedes. But some cars from Mercedes outperform cars from BMW.

From what I know it's Mercedes-Benz. A close friendwho is a mechanic has been collecting them for years, and absolutely loves them. Lots of other people i know drive them happily.
My mum purchased a BMW, and was very disappointed. Heaps of (unrelated) people she knew told her not to buy one, and they were right.
So basically: -BMW are never recommended
- Mercedes are better made and smoother to drive and repair
- Personally i think BMWs are better looking cars, but it's hard to beat Mercs for classiness.

- Toyotas are not a German car or luxury, but if you go for the top of the range ones it is almost the same as mercedez, some people even think they are better (and WAY better value for money)
