No there has never been a black president before. [except for Obama] And there may have been a black person running for president but did not make it so that does not count as a president.

Though he is half black and half white, he is still considered black by many around the world and he does not mind the title of being the "First black president of the US".

Matter of fact he is the only black man that has ever been the president of the US.

Obama has been correctly referred to as the first "black President", but it is technically incorrect to list him as "African American" since his mother was caucasian (Scotch-Irish). It is more accurate to refer to Obama's ethnicity as "mixed race".
