No. Much of Orange County borders the Pacific Ocean while the rest is inland. The nearest desert is Palm Springs, located in Riverside County, the next county east.

...However, it used to be a political and cultural desert. This has slowly begun to change with the emergence of more vigorous Asian and Hispanic communities, as well as former 60's humanists and artists getting old and moving into the County....Though it is still nearly impossible to find any international films and serious art northwest of the rich areas surrounding Irvine.
