Peru is south of the equator (technically it is inaccurate to say it is below the equator).

Northern Peru is actually within ONE KILOMETER of the equator, on the border with Colombia near the Ecuador-Colombia-Peru common point. Coincidentally, the Putumayo River is the northern boundary of Peru and is almost exactly along the equator, running east and west at that point.
