Many software licenses restrict the use of a program to a single computer.
A software license for multiple computers will specify the number of machines on which the program may be installed. Software license agreements for medium to large sized businesses are commonly referred to as, "Enterprise License Agreements".
Some "Enterprise License Agreement" plans allow the Information Technology (I.T.) support staff or employees to install and use a program on multiple computers provided they do not operate both computers at the same time. In other words, an employee may begin work on their office computer, save it, transport the document home and continue the work there as long as they do not have the software running "concurrently" in the first location.
Finally, in some instances employees may be granted a temporary license to use software on one or more personally owned computers for the term of their employment. This is most commonly found with Anti-virus software and serves the purpose of preventing a computer virus from transferring from a Personal (i.e. "Home") computer to a business computer.
