RIMMs are copyrighted so companies have to pay to produce them. also, RIMM is legacy and getting to be much harder to find.
DIMM is open tech and they are now faster than Rambus anyway.

∙ 9y agoRIMM modules are very similar to DIMMs except they are generally faster and have built-in error checking. Because most computer manufacturers do not use RIMMs, they are often more expensive than DIMMs with similar specs.

You can buy 512MB DIMM DDR RAM for $9.99, yes that's correct that's Nine Dollars and ninety-nine cents at TigerDirect.com or you can buy 512MB of RIMM for $215.00 (two hundred and fifteen) dollars at www.memorysuppliers.com..reason is the quality and speed of the memory. RIMM is far higher quality along with error checking and more speed.
