I would say..."sort of"

It is educational on manners of survival, and socialization.

It teaches you how and what to do with certain items such as a log, and tinderbox. You use the tinderbox to light the fire.

But although some people might say it's addicting, do NOT stay on it all day! Or you'll certainly pack the pounds!

Take a break every couple of hours and go outside!

I would say that Runescape also improves your "medieval" vocabulary with words such as "regicide", "chivalry", and "piety"

1. Yes. It teaches people how to manage money and make decisions. It is great for socialism and it helps improve typing skills. It mainly teaches the market and how prices and shares increase and drop. 75% of the game has to do with mathematical, social, and arithmetic puzzles whereas the other 25% is fantasy and player vs player action.

The game is extremely popular and over 130 150 Million accounts have been created.

2. It is Educational but is not adviced to take up your social life. Playing it too long will mean that your social life will be affected as you would rather play RuneScape instead of going out with mates.

3. It all depends on whether you mean in a positive or a negative way. As mentioned in the first answer, there are many positive aspects. On the other hand, there are nearly as many negative aspects. Collusion, (group arbitrage/merchanting), dishonorable play, ("cheating drop systems" by taking advantage of game mechanics), just to name a couple of the bigger problems.
If you are interested about rocks, geology, mining, fishing, woodcutting and learning about what elements make different elements.(Tin and copper make bronze. You learn that from Runescape)
