∙ 8y agoThe relationship between the two countries has been better, but it has also been worse during the Cold War. Today, it is "prickly ", but fortunately both realize (at this point) it doesn't pay to be enemies. To some extent each distrusts the other but this is due to past history and to the fact that Putin is aggressive in his policies. It is a matter of a balance of power between them and Europe. The United States keeps an eye on troop movements of Russia in Eastern Europe and with Iran. I think the best term to used is friendemy. Both watch the other.
