Yes,it is safe,but everyone who is not familiar with another country,must always be careful.Back in the 80's there were a lot of black people coming into Moscow because of the college and institutions there.It is no surprised to find black people in Moscow and hear them speak perfect Russian.

You should be careful on railroad stations. Look around. Sometimes such a trip is scary and a little weird for foreigners. I think a little carefulness, and you'll be fine.
