I work for Rutgers--it's a really big place. There are three Rutgers Universities: New Brunswick, Newark & Camden. All three are separate schools & you will be accepted into them separately. Both Newark and Camden are urban campuses (and I know those cities have bad reps, but honestly, the university districts are kept nice).
At Rutgers New Brunswick, there are four different geographical campuses--still all under Rutgers New Brunswick. The Cook/Douglass Campus, Livingston Campus, and Busch Campus are all pretty suburban college campuses. The College Avenue Campus (used to be called Main Campus) is in downtown New Brunswick, and is urban.
The two fastest connections from the George Washington Bridge to the main campus of Rutgers University are the NJ Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway.
