St. Jude's is a wonderful Hospital for children, that serves children whether the family can pay or not. It was the especial project of late actor/entertainer Danny Thomas. His legacy is carried on by his daughter Marlo Thomas, actress and wife of talk-show host Phil Donahue.
Danny Thomas was of Lebanese descent, and I belive Roman Catholic, as St. Jude is the Roman Catholic Patron Saint of Lost Causes.
Saint Jude was a man.
The St Jude Children's Centre is a charity in India which helps provide homes, healthcare and food to poor children and their parents. Some charities do connect with the gods of their religion. However many charities, hospitals and so on are just named after a saint because that saint represents them or what they do. For example, Saint Jude is the Saint of lost causes and desperateness. The Saint Jude Children's Centre took the name 'Saint Jude' because they help children who feel lost and desperate. Having "Saint" in the name of an organisation does not make it a religious organisation. It's just a name.
Saint jude was built for kids with cancer.
I believe you mean the Patron Saint of Hope, that is St. Jude, who is the saint for hopeless causes and desperation. Hope was martyred along with her sisters Faith and Charity sending her soul immediately to heaven. She is a saint but not a patron saint.
