Yes, definitely. And of course it's how you look or relate to it from an outsider's point of view, comparing how developed Samoa is to your part of the world. But us Samoans, we are thankful for what we've got, and we might not have everything, but we have our families.
It's a developing country, improving rapidly.
Yes, us Samoans consider our country developed. I suppose it all depends on how the world relates to us, and us to the world.
1. Samoa is classed as a 'developing nation', NZ is classed as a 'developed nation'. 2. Samoa is lead by a 'mixed' government whereby it is BOTH a democracy and a monarchy (i.e; Samoa has a Head of State AND a Prime Minister). NZ is a democracy lead by a Prime Minister only.
Samoa has its own economy therfore is self-sufficient in most cases. However in light on tragedies (such as the recent tsunami) IMHO, I'd say, "Yes" Samoa relies (a little, if not mostly) on the generous donations from developed countries like Australia, NZ and the US.

American Samoa and Western Samoa (now known as Samoa).
it is called western Samoa because Samoa is divided into two parts, American Samoa and western Samoa. After colonialism came to Samoa, America took control of Eastern Samoa which adapted the name "American Samoa". While Germany (and later NZ) took control of Western Samoa, who then took on the name "Western Samoa". No called SAMOA. The nation dropped the "western" in 1997.
They are the same in that Samoans in American Samoa and Samoa (once Western Samoa) have the same heritage. However, American Samoa is a US territory while Samoa is an independent nation. So they are in effect two different countries.
