The capital of Sudan is Khartoum.
Here is an estimate of what the land contains.
According to wikipedia
1993 estimates:
§ 5% arable land
§ 0% permanent crops
§ 46% permanent pastures
§ 19% forests and woodland
§ 30% other areas
§ 19 460 km² irrigated land
The terrain is generally flat plains, broken by several mountain ranges; in the west the Deriba Caldera (3,042 m/9,980 ft), located in the Murrah Mountains, is the highest point in Sudan; in the east are the Red sea hills.
This is what I found on desert figures Most of the northern half of Sudan is desert or semi-desert and vegetation is limited to scattered xerophytic shrubs such as Acacia ehrenbergiana.
According to Sudan's environmental profile it is still forested across 28.4% of its land- 67,546,000 hectares (which is just under quarter of a million square miles). It is decreasing by a substantial area each year.
I do see there is a contradiction with these figures. It being Africa information is harder to come across, and often conflicts. If you are merely interested, then this might be enough. If not or if it is for a project, have more of a look at the various websites I have listed and others similar. Due to the war torn state of Sudan (both what is now Sudan and South Sudan (ceded a few months ago)) figures are inaccurate and often out of date as it is not considered a high priority till things settle down.
