Although not nearly as explicit as it could get, (it's from a little kid's point of view) The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is NOT A CHILDREN'S MOVIE. It deals with the Holocaust. It would be a good idea to run through the content before letting a child watch it. Audiences of all ages will be sobbing at the end, because the end is set in a gas chamber. Recommend audiences: 11 or 12 and up. This may be upsetting for children any younger; as if it isn't upsetting enough for teenagers or adults.
Yes, I do. It's one of my favorite World War II movies.
Summary:
Bruno's a young German boy during World War II, who's father is a soldier. When his father gets a promotion to become in charge of a Nazi concentration camp, (Aushwitz) Bruno's life drastically changes. His new life is boring, until he goes exploring on the other fence and meets a Jewish boy, Shmuel. Despite being completely different, the two become great friends. Bruno's father gets a tutor for Bruno and his sister, Gretel. Gretel instantly gets obsessed with Nazism, hating Jews. Bruno, on the other hand is completely innocent. His friend Shmuel is Jewish, he's not bad. Shmuel's father later goes missing, and Bruno gets the surprise of his entire eight year old life.
It's rated PG-13 for MODERATE violence. All violence is OFFSCREEN. Other than racist remarks, no profanity. No nudity for the most part.
The ending is very shocking, but it is a very good film you should see.
