It most certainly 'can' be worth well more than $.01 to a collector. Of course it depends on the condition of the coin among other things. A mint state 1927 Denver or San Francisco mint *could* bring in 2,000-11,000 dollars at auction. But it's very unlikely that your particular coin is in that kind of condition. It would need to be graded and slabbed at MS-65 or higher by a professional grading company. But I am assuming that you ask the question because your penny is red and shiny. Brown pennys of this year and earlier can be found very easily. If your coin is red (redish shiny copper), is very lustrous (reflective of light), doesn't have any wear, and doesn't have any dark spots it's value is anywhere from $10-$11,500 and up. Again, the penny must be awful gorgeous with hardly any flaws whatsoever.
Most older Lincoln cents show heavy wear and have values of 5 to 25 cents depending on condition and mint mark if any.
