are you 100% sure that the brown is copper?

More ...You may have what's called a lamination error. That happens when the outer cladding on a coin (which is copper-nickel, NOT silver) loses its bond with the inner copper core. That can happen before or after the design is struck on the coin, but in either case it can definitely be worth a premium. I've seen these listing for about $5 to $7 retail as of 02/2010.

Unlikely. A chemical reaction can strip off the thin copper coating and leave the silver-colored zinc behind, this is not a mint error and as such has no collector demand. Its worth only a penny.

Nickel silver is a copper alloy...60% copper, 20% nickel, and 20% zinc. The name comes from its color and appearance. So....it is worth more as scrap metal than as a "precious metal". Sorry!

Is a 2006 US silver penny worth anything?

There are no silver pennies. However there are silver-colored cents. That's because cents made since mid-1982 have a zinc core that appears silver in color when the outer copper coating is removed or altered. It may be worth something, but you'd need to have it examined in person. If it was plated for use in jewelry, or was dipped in acid to remove the copper coat, it's an altered coin only worth a penny. If it accidentally was not coated with copper at the Mint, it's an error coin worth up to $100.So you see why an in-person inspection by a dealer is necessary.

What is the value of a 2001 solid silver US quarter?

You have to inspect your coin carefully. If it has a P or D mint mark, it's made of copper-nickel, not silver and is only worth 25¢. If it has an S mint mark and a copper-colored edge it's a copper-nickel proof coin worth maybe $2 to $11 depending on its quality. If it's in a holder labelled "Prestige Proof", then it IS a silver coin, but it's not solid silver. U.S. silver coins have at least 10% copper in them. These were made for collectors and sell for $3 to $15 depending on quality and which state is depicted.
