The one in the commercial is not $50, its 60 cents. I'm talking about the buffalo gold coin.
Much moreIt depends on the coin. The US makes 2 different kinds of "$50" gold coins. They're actually bullion pieces and aren't intended for spending; the $50 denomination is artificial. The first type is an "American Eagle" piece featuring Miss Liberty on the front and an eagle on the back. It contains 1 oz of gold alloyed with silver and copper.
The second type is an "American Buffalo" piece that has an interpretation of the famous Indian head / buffalo nickel design from the early 20th century. These coins also contain 1 oz of gold, but it's 99.99% pure with only traces of other metals.
In addition there are many private pieces, some that are actually gold and lots more that are only gold plated, including the replica piece noted in the previous answer.
Unless you buy the Eagle or Buffalo coins from a certified bullion dealer you're taking a big chance that you'll have one of those copies, or an outright fake.

No, it's a coin that's worth 50 cents.
Please post a new question with more details. What's it's date? What country is it from? What images are on it?

To find the price of a coin, it much be determined what country the currency is from. The American 50 dollar Gold Liberty Walking Eagle coin can be purchased for roughly $1550.00 American.
Typically those types of coins are generally worth market value of gold. The 50 dollar coin is 1 troy ounce of gold, so therefore around $1400 as of late December of 2010.
Please look at the coin again and post new question. The U.S. never released a $50 gold coin dated 1915.
$50
It's not a real person.
No. This stuff is only plated with a very thin layer of gold.
The $50 Liberty is a bullion coin valued for the one troy ounce of gold it contains. Current price would be $1200 - $1400, depending on the spot gold market.
Your coin is an ordinary copper-nickel half dollar with a portrait of President Kennedy. It's not gold, just gold-plated. The plating was added by a private company that sold the coin as a "collectible" but it has no real value beyond 50¢ except as a curiosity. Coin collectors consider it to be an altered or damaged piece; in any case it would cost more to remove the gold plating than its value as a precious metal.
