It depends on your fighting style- Armamentalists mainly revolve on boosting your stats- it`s Coup de grace amplifies EXP. The spells are all buffs, and it`s special abillities are ATK and DEF boosting. It`s mainly for people who want lots of buffs. Makes a good party member, but make it CPU controlled.

I think you only need one armamentalist. Change to a sage you need the awesome attack and healing. Or a gladiator for a sweeper team
Have you unlocked the vocation yet? Speak to the man in red, just a little north from the Alltrades Abbey entrance.
At alltrades abbey speak to the man wearing red to the right of the stairs to the inn. Complete his quest (something about killing 3 metal slimes) and you can go to jack of alltrades and become an arnamentalist.
