The letters after a person's name say nothing about the quality of their abilities; it just signifies what type of degree they obtained. A D.O. usually just means a Doctor of Osteopathy, or a practitioner who works specifically with skeletal problems. How "good" he/she is probably depends far more on where they went to school, the actual training they received, where they did their residencies or what experience they have than what letters are after his/her name. If you have specific skeletal issues, then a D.O. actually is better to go to than an M.D. who is only a general practitioner.
