no Ford focus 2.0 single overhead cam and escort 2.0 single overhead cam are the same block and head everything bolted on it, needs to be swapped over. 1996 has the 1.9L in it. I can't say for sure but I don't think it will work as it is a slightly different engine. I'm new to these vehicles but not with engines. I bought a 2001 Focus 2.0 SOHC vin P for my daughter with a trashed cylinder head and block. They're both similar in casting So, I bought a 1997 Ford Escort block since they both interchange with the head and I thought I can just slap the Escort block to the Focus. Wrong, one of the water pump bolt holes is different and the side of the engine towards the firewall don't have the mounting for the Focus steering on the Escort block. So far that's all I could find that's different. I might have to modify the Escort block to fit the water pump (maybe drill & tap for the misalign hole). Just check for extra meat behind it. The steering mount I might have to make a bracket to fit for the Focus since there's only 2 undrilled blanks on the block of the Escort. I still need to do some comparison before attempting to do the modifications. I can't afford anymore mistakes since I didn't know these engines drop there valve seats and ruin the head and block. I'm good on aircooled Baja VW's engine and fabrication BTW, I need some help myself in these Fords. ********** People need to abide by what the interchange manuals say, and they say these engines do not interchange. End of story.
It is in the passenger compartment fuse block.
