Yes, HID lights need a ballast.
HID bulbs are primary use is for when you need high levels of light over large areas. These areas include gymnasiums, large public areas, warehouses, movie theaters and football stadiums.

My fog lights on my 03 tiburon do not come on any more, the green light on the button to turn them on is also not working. can anyone tell me were the fuse is located and what is the abbreviation on the panel for the fog lights. i recently had a HID conversion kit installed, could this have something to do with them not working, could the ballist be malfunctioning, and if so why both at the same time, Help!
She quickly hid behind the bushes to avoid being seen.
The wattage depends on the size of the growing area. It also depends on whether HID is the main source of light or if it supplements sunlight. And it also depends on the types of plants. 150/175 watts if HID lights 2'x2' growing area, and HID and sun light 3'x3' 250 watts if HID 3'x3', HID and sun 4'x4' 400/430 watts if HID 4'x4', HID and sun 6'x6' 600 watts if HID 6'x6', HID and sun 8'x8' 1000 watts if HID 8'x8', HID and sun 10'x10'
Yes, but you should add a bleed resistor in parallel to a motor run cap if you want to use it for a hid ballast to drain the cap when its not in use, this is to avoid dangerous voltages remaining in the cap, and remove the potential for electrocution
The are many uses for a high-intensity discharge lamp light for those that use one. The main use for the high-intensity discharge lamp lights is to cover a large area that needs light.

HID in "HID lights" stands for High Intensity Discharge. It refers to a type of electrical gas-discharge light that produces light through an electric arc between tungsten electrodes housed inside a translucent or transparent fused quartz or fused alumina arc tube.
From what i understand, HID kits are illegal unless you have a projector installed on your car so it controls the light output of the HID's. Projectors spread the light evenly and have a cut off point which don't blind on coming drivers. Don't just install the hid kit, replace your headlights with projects =)
Some lower-output projectors (and all of the new so-called 'nano' projectors) use LED's for their light source. Most higher-output projectors use incandescent halogen or HID lamps for the light source.
No. An hid bulb has a transformer (ballast) that produces a certain voltage needed to fire the gas in that lamp.
