Bull sharks are extremely aggressive sharks who inhabit warm coastal and estuarine waters worldwide, and often range far up rivers into fresh water. They have been seen in the Mississippi as far north as St. Louis, and in the Amazon as far as 2,200 miles upstream.
Most of the serious shark attacks in shallow water are by Bull sharks, as they tend to frequent the same areas that people prefer for swimming. Along with Tiger and Great White Sharks, they are considered the sharks most likely to attack humans, and because of their preference for shallow waters they come into contact with humans more often than the other two, which are primarily marine species.
