That would depend on the young lady. If she will always be very gentle with the chihuahua, they make excellent pets. My granddaughters are 8 & 5 and my little Jo-Jo loves them and plays very well with them. These little guys can get mean and aggressive if they are teased and those little teeth can hurt. Their bones are very small and can be snapped by just jumping off of a bed or chair. If a child is made to understand what constitutes abuse of an animal, you shouldn't have a problem.
You must oversee the care and feeding until you are satisfied that all will be well.
