Not always. You may have bitten yourself in your sleep or have a canker sore. If it painful, you could try Oragel (or something like it) to help numb it. I like the BABY Oragel best because it is a gel and is easier to put exactly where you want it. If you have the hole for more than a week or ten days and it isn't getting better, you should check with your doctor.
